Creating and Managing an FAQ

Creating an FAQ Module

How many FAQ Modules should I create?
The "FAQ" is a module, meaning that you may create more than one FAQ. Creating more than one is typically not needed because the user can categorize the FAQ to include different "Topics". Generally the only reason you would create more than one FAQ module is if they are to be managed by different users and the questions are unrelated.

To create a FAQ Module click on the "Content Management" dashboard. You can reach this by clicking the tab of the same name. Within the "Add Dynamic Areas (Modules) to Your Website" section, click on the "FAQ" button.

Enter a name for your FAQ (Remember this will be the title of the FAQ on your webpage) and click insert. You will then be redirected to your FAQ management screen.

 Managing an FAQ Module

The FAQ module is simple conceptually. The layout is as follows:

  • Category 1
    • Question 1
    • Question 2
    • Question x....
  • Category 2
    • Question 1
    • Question 2
    • Question x....

A real life example could be:

  • Planning and Zoning
    • How do I obtain a permit?
    • How can I renew an existing permit?
  • Recorder of Deeds
    • What is the role of the Recorder of Deeds?
    • How can I find more information?

In the above example, Planning and Zoning is a category. Every question needs to be contained in a category. To create a category, click the "Add Category" button in the top right. Select a title, in our case it would be "Planning and Zoning". Click add and the category will now appear on the list.

After a category has been added, we can create a question. Click the "Add Question" button in the top right of your screen. You must select a category, in this example we will select the one we just created, "Planning and Zoning". Enter a question and the answer as seen below. When you are satisfied with the question, click add to create your question.

 

At this point you will have a fully functional FAQ! You can now repeat these steps for as many questions and categories as needed.

If you did not select the "Active" checkbox when adding your categories or questions, you may do so by clicking the red button next to each question or category. This will change the button to green and make it viewable on your website!
