Custom Shipping Methods

Custom shipping methods can be set up to use flat shipping rates in your store. Shipping rules can be based on weight, price, area or category.

Weight

Custom weight shipping rules are based on the weight of the entire shipment. The weight method allows you to define range of weight for an order and give that range a price. Each additional pound over the weight range will be calculated based on the price you set up.

  1. Go to the shipping admin screen and fill in the form on the left to add a custom shipping method.
  2. Give the method a name. This name will appear in the customer's cart. For flat rates you could use "Flat Rate". The name is for display purposes only.
  3. Choose Weight in the type drop-down.
  4. Choose the Region you want this rule to apply to.
  5. Define a weight range by filling in the the Min and Max weight fields.
  6. Enter the price for that weight range in the "Base Price" box.
  7. Setup the price for each additional pound in the "Price Per Pound" box. Note: Leave this field blank if you do not want the rule to apply to weight outside this range.
  8. If you want the store to tell the customer that the price will be calculated by the store owner, check the "Email Price" checkbox. If this box is checked, the price will not be displayed to the customer and the customer will not be charged a price for shipping. It will be the store owner's responsibility to charge the customer for the shipping costs.
