Paypal Website Payments Pro

What it is:

Paypal Website Payments Pro is a merchant account and payment gateway in one. This service behaves as a true payment gateway, so it is invisible to your customers. The service allows you to accept credit cards (amex, visa, MC, etc) and the transactions are processed without your customer needing a paypal account.

  • No long-term commitments or monthly minimums
  • Lower Total Processing Costs: On average, Website Payments Pro is 16% less expensive than other credit card processors.1 Pay nothing more than a low transaction fee and a $30 monthly fee.
  • One Account for Everything: No need to maintain separate relationships with a merchant account bank, a gateway, or credit card companies. PayPal handles all your payment processing as well as your reports, statements, billing information, and account support. Since Virtual Terminal is included, it covers phone, fax, and email orders, too.
  • Customers Stay on Your Site: Buyers paying by credit card never leave your site, so you control the entire payment experience.

Who its for:

Web-only ecommerce store owners that don't already have a Merchant account, and who wish to have a simple way to accept credit cards without having their customers leave their stores. Since Paypal handles all parts of the transaction it is a quick and simple solution to setup.

Setting Paypal Website Payments Pro:

Step 1: Create a Paypal Website Payments Pro Account:

To use this gateway, you must have a Paypal Web Payments Pro Account. If you do not have this type of account, you can click here to sign up. Once you have created your account and have your Paypal username and password you can move to Step 2.

Step 2: Request API Credentials

  1. Once your account has been verified, log in to your Paypal account and click on the "Profile" link at the top. In your profile section click on "Request API credentials". Record these credentials to enter into your store admin.

Step 3: Setup Your Store

IMPORTANT: Once Paypal has been set up, do not change these settings unless you are switching Paypal accounts. Entering invalid information here will cause the entire Paypal payment gateway to break and your store will not be able to take orders.

  1. Login to your store admin and go to the "Payments" section under the "Operations" Menu
  2. Make sure that the icon next to Paypal Web Payments Pro API is green indicating that Paypal is the active payment gateway.
  3. Click on the gear icon for Paypal Web Payments Pro to view the Paypal admin screen.
  4. Please enter the API credentials from step two into the boxes on this page. Be careful not to include any extra spaces or characters.
  5. When finished click "Update API". Your payment gateway is now ready to be used.
